BRL News
For the BRL guests that read this blog I wanted you to know that the home of Laurie Mayes burned to the ground last night. We had a very strong electrical storm and lightning hit her home.
Archive of posts made between December 25, 2005 and December 14, 2008 about the Taum Sauk Reservoir failure and the damage to the Shut-Ins and the Black River. This blog was posted by Lee Ferber of Peola Valley Pottery in Lesterville. The pottery was closed in 2007.

Lee,
Thank you for the news. It was a sad night for all the BRL guests. We are holding Lauri and her family in our prayers.

It was a terrible storm with strong winds and lots of lightning. It was very sad news when we heard that Lauri's house had burned to the ground. Our prayers are with Lauri and her family.
For those of you who are concerned about Lauri and Ronnie, a small group of long time BRL guests have sent cash or Wal Mart gift cards to help w/ temporary expenses. I encourage others to do this, wish I had a way to get the word out to more people. If you are a BRL guest and have a circle of other BRL guests you can contact, I encourage you to do so. They did have insurance, but settlements usually take some time. They lost literally everything but the clothes on their backs.
Sometimes the saddest thing lost are pictures and memories. If anyone has any pictures of Laurie and her family these can be a great comfort.
