Buried Treasure
While looking for something else I found this page of letters about the Ameren settlement. I found the last letter very interesting reading.
Archive of posts made between December 25, 2005 and December 14, 2008 about the Taum Sauk Reservoir failure and the damage to the Shut-Ins and the Black River. This blog was posted by Lee Ferber of Peola Valley Pottery in Lesterville. The pottery was closed in 2007.

I find the letters from landowners along the river and floaters to be of interest as well. Will there be no compensation to property owners affected by the reservoir failure and what about the condition of the Black River to Clearwater Lake? Will it take several decades to naturally recover, with Ameren taking no responsibilty for this?
Probably.
Go to the FERC website and read these comments from the guy who said he knew how to fix it.

He got pushed aside for cost reasons.
Also, nothing about the water quality upstream of the reservoir through Johnson Shutins. There won't be any scuba divers in the big pool again in our lifetime.
