Blunt, Ferrell, Steelman, Nixon

The following is from an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

At the Wednesday news conference, Blunt denied that he planned to keep the settlement secret. If it had been approved, the agreement would have been public, he said.

The governor also denied that the state skirted any laws by issuing a $70,000 settlement check, which the employee, Heather Elder, returned. State Treasurer Sarah Steelman has questioned why the state drew the money from an agriculture equipment account instead of the legal expense fund, which normally pays such claims.

Blunt, a Republican, said the agriculture account was used because Attorney General Jay Nixon, a Democrat, refused to handle the case during settlement negotiations.

Nixon's spokesman said the attorney general does not get involved in personnel matters during the "pre-litigation" state. Nixon's office began representing Ferrell on Tuesday in the sexual harassment case, which was filed last week in Cole County Circuit Court.

Great atmosphere for people to get together on the Taum Sauk event! Wonder if Doyle has a position on this.

"Blunt's May letter made no mention of reaching a settlement with Elder, nor of a previously cited requirement by Blunt that Ferrell pay $10,000 toward her legal fees. That's because those details arose later, said Kurt Schaefer, a Department of Natural Resources attorney picked by Blunt to act as a special counsel for the matter"

There you go.

And the people of MO wait.
Wait for these political egos to work together. Wait for a renovated park. Wait for the shut-ins to be cleaned. Wait for the East Fork of the Black River to be restored.

I hope no one is holding their breath.
