The Doyle Show

Here is an article about a letter that Doyle Childers sent to Jay Nixon on the Taum Sauk settlement. There is also a link to the DNR press release about the same subject. Since public is not privy to either sides real position on this matter, it's hard to know which side has the better argument. I've already said that I'm disappointed in the lack of information from DNR. It has been six months since the Shut-Ins web site has posted any real data.

Depending on which business you are talking about we have somewhere between 6 and 10 weeks until the start of the season. The pottery will open on weekends starting April 14, Wilderness Lodge opens early May, and BRL May 18. I really think for most local folks believe that DNR and the Shut-Ins have over played their hand. That is not to give Ameren a free ride, Ameren should also be more open to what is happening on top of the mountain. I saw a large truck heading towards St Louis loaded with twisted rebar today, assume it came from the concrete lining of the Upper Reservoir, but I don't know. Ameren also needs to either update Experienceblackriver.com or pull it down. No one feels comfortable taking information from a web site that is clearly over a year old. Most of the contact information is probably correct, but the calendar is clearly old. During the panel meetings one panelist said that they didn't have to give a lot of money towards tourism because Ameren already had done the job with the Experienceblackriver.com web site. That person was not is the tourism business.

Throughout Missouri history, governors and their political appointees have been frustrated by the law that puts the Attorney General in charge of all litigation for the state.

The DNR does not have a case and it cannot make a settlement offer. Neither can the governor. The State has a case and the Attorney General is in charge.

Whether you like Jay Nixon or not and whether you like the way he has handled Taum Sauk, that is the way it is. The Attorney General is in charge, just like every single other case on behalf of the State. The DNR and Governor's job is to cooperate with the Attorney General and do as they are told.

I agree with Dan.

The Attorney General was ordered by the courts and commanded by the governor to pursue a legal course with Ameren when this event happened.

The attorney general was cleared of all concerns about the donation from an ethics board. A bi-partisan ethics board.

He returned the money, which is more the Blunt family has done with their Ameren donations.

It's time for Childers, a pure political appointee and without the experience to lead DNR, to step down. He embarrasses the DNR. He embarrasses the state.

As for whether the park will open this summer I wouldn't hold your breath. And that's too bad, because innocent folk like yourselves are being harmed.

We're just going to have to figure out how we, the people, can work together to help the area despite our so-called political and corporate leaders.

Please do not confuse "DNR" in Jefferson City with the local field staff.

I am not one of the field staff, nor am I officially speaking for any of them. They are as powerless and some are as unhappy as the rest of us.

JSI and those big rocks there are being used as a political football for the governorship. Pure and simple.
