Tale of Two Families

Here are parts of two notes that I have received recently.

Our first canoe trip of the season is just a few weeks away and we are anxious to see the river. Plesae keep up the good work letting us know about the river!

I was just wondering if you could tell me how bad the river is looking this year. My family visits BRL every year but this year we are considering not coming. We drove down in March to check things out and the water was very muddy and carried a lot of debris. There was no beach at the lodge either.

So I would like to hear from others about their plans and fears. Leave a comment or send me an email to peolavalley@yahoo.com

I agree the river is a big part of the atmosphere at BRL, but there are so many other things to enjoy, the river being just ONE of them.
The people, the food, the sports tourneys, bingo, square dance, the pool, the rec hall, the talent show, the weiner roast, on & on. Just remember, the river will return to its old self, maybe not this year, so why would you miss out on all of the other great activities. You will still be guaranteed to have a heck' of a good ol' time. Would'nt miss it for the world. Besides? Where else could you buy some fantastic POTTERY?

I agree! The river is just one part of vacationing at BRL. I know the river will not be as beautiful as in the past years, but it will return to it's crystal clear state in the future. This time of year, with a lot of rain, the lodge often looses it's beach, but it soon returns.

I can't imagine a summer without BRL, we had to miss one year and I was miserable. The people are great, the food is great and the activities are great, what more could you want?

I have only talked with a few from our week and they are planning on being there also this year.

I don't vacation at BRL, but camp at Twin Rivers. I come with a group of women and we like to explore the area, shop, and of course float the river. We have decided to stay at Alley Springs and float the Jack Forks this year because our float trip is a big part of our fun. I will probably come down with family this summer to tour JSI State Park. I think if the river doesn't clear it will hurt the canoe and raft outfitters, but probably not BRL as it offers so much more for the vacation experience. Will definitly miss our trip to the pottery.

We come th BRL every year & have since my mom was 24....she is 79 now. We wouldn't miss it for the world. My kids would be VERY unhappy if we took this portion of their life away....We love the Lodge, the area and the pottery is unbeatable. My son was down last weekend ... the river was high and still silty he said...he still loves it there and will be down to camp several times before our week in August. Don't give up on the lodge or the river....

To all loyal Black River vacationers, my family owns property on the river and from experience the river is always muddy and murky in the Spring because of high water and flooding. When the river recedes, it will clear up. Anyone who has been around the river after a good rain, can say that a hard rain can even make it very cloudy. There is no way the river is nearly as bad as when the four wheelers were allowed to drive in and through it years ago.
