Meeting / Shut-Ins

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold the sixth in a series of monthly informational meetings Monday, May 8, to discuss progress made on water quality in the Black River and recovery efforts at Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park near Lesterville. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Lesterville High School.

I don't know if DNR plans to continue holding these meetings during the summer season, but if they do I hope those of you down at the time of the meetings will attend and put your two cents in.

I was told yesterday that 6000 feet of cyclone fence will be installed at the Shut-Ins park to seperate the area open to tourists from the area still under construction. The work on the East Fork above the "Shut-Ins" will be the big focus this summer.

The May edition of the River Hills Traveler has more than two full pages devoted to the Black River plus editorial commentary. It's work checking out.
