The Childers Show v 3.2

Doesn't Blunt have someone else to do this type of work. I had a local ask why Blunt didn't fire Nixon and appoint a new Attorney General. Not sure what type of Missouri government they teach in Lesterville, but Nixon was elected to the job, Childers was appointed by Blunt. I think Lesterville should sue the state for another $5 million for all the damage that is being done to the area by press releases from DNR.

Political strategy.

Blunt isn't stupid. He knows that the Attorney General is in charge and that Childers can't appear in court and do anything. Its been the law in Missouri for at least 100 years and a thorn in the side of every governor who has an AG in the other party.

But, when the courts side with Nixon (which they have to do), then they get to blame the evil activist judges for siding with the "Urban Environmental Crazies".

Not that I think Nixon is doing such a great job. It is just that it is his job to screw up.

Hi, Urban Environmentalist Crazy checking in here.

More on the infamous donation here.

Question: Has anyone heard anything about what's happening at the Shut-Ins?

If you check the shut-ins web site there is no current info regarding repair work. I called the DNR # given and the person fielding calls said she didn't know when the park would reopen. I then asked if there was any repair work being done at this time and she said "I'm sure there is". So without driving down to the park (100 miles for me) to see for myself what, if anything, is happening, we will have to let Lee check into this.

Most of the proposed work is on hold pending the resolution of the lawsuit, due to the fact that the money DNR is counting on to do it is coming (hopefully someday) from Ameren.

No doubt there is work going on up on the hill.

Then the DNR needs to open up the grounds as is. They were open last summer, and the only reason closed was supposedly because of clean up.

If clean up is not forthcoming, then open up what they can of the park until such time as Ameren and the state and DNR get their act together and actually do some work rather than spending their time bickering.

This does nothing more than demonstrate how unqualified Childers was for this position. This is what happens with unchecked cronyism.

State Parks is being particularily mum on everything, compared to the big media splash last year, public comment hearings, etc.

I submitted written comments twice (with contact info) and have heard nothing. Official mum's the word is 'because of the lawsuit' but this isn't playing so well amongst the park supporters who have taken the time to become involved with the process.

You know the area of the Shut-Ins web site where you can sign up to be a volunteer, I'll bet that no one has ever received an invitation to come out to the park and help out. Might be time to find out where the State Park Advisory Board meets next and go make a comment.

Mums the word because of the lawsuit has nothing to with effort to rebuild the park. It should be funded by the state, and then reimbursed as part of any legal settlement. Holding on rebuilding the park hurts the community, but it ultimately can hurt the park itself--nature isn't going to easily recover the effects of such a flood on its own. Not unless we want to wait a hundred years or so.

By holding on doing work on the park for the lawsuit to finalize, DNR and the state have given Ameren immense control and power over this process. That's unconscionable.

Additionally, not providing updates is contrary to state law, as is not communicating or responding to requests for information. The DNR is a servant of the people -- not an independent body.

If you find out when any board meets related to this, I hope you do publish this information. I wouldn't mind being there myself.
